About us

Matthew A Potts

I began my journey in the funeral profession while at school, at the age of 14, after attending a family funeral some months previously. It was during that funeral that I knew this is what I was destined to do. I managed to get a school holiday job working for a local Knutsford/Northwich firm whom I continued to work for, full time, when I left school at the age of 16.

I started at the bottom gaining vital skills and knowledge in all areas of the work we undertook. On my 23rd birthday I passed the National Association of Funeral Directors Diploma in Funeral Directing.

Some 38 years later I still have the greatest passion for helping families who are faced with bereavement. Being entrusted by clients to help, guide and advise is a very special privilege and I strive to continue in my service to you and your loved ones with discretion, honesty, compassion and attention to detail throughout. I am very proud to have my own practice to serve Knutsford and surrounding communities where my family and I live and will continue to offer our, guidance, advise, support and experience to help you.

Together we can find a pathway through your darkest hour and emerge again into the light.

Melanie Potts

Melanie and I have been married for 28 years, born and living in Knutsford all her life. Mel has helped me on many occasions in my work and is now our company secretary, taking care of the day-to-day office duties and is often seen out on funerals taking names of the mourners attending the funeral. She is a vital member of our work and home life.

Jacob Potts

Jacob is our eldest son and he has been involved with me in the profession since he was in school and showed a great interest to join me when he left. He has been helping me out ever since. Now he has become my right-hand man and is mainly responsible for all office and computer work as well as assisting me. Jacob is polite and courteous and very keen to be trained in all aspects of our profession.

Sam Potts

Sam is our youngest son and has recently left his farming career to set up his own business in Groundworks. A confident and social young man, Sam is always ready to step in and help his dad when called upon.

Rachael Potts

Rachael is our youngest child and only daughter and is currently working as a groom on a livery yard in Knutsford. Rachael is polite and conscientious and has shown a great interest to learn and understand the work we do, and helps out when she can. Rachael is keen to experience all aspects of the work we do and can often be found on funerals taking names.

The Dogs

Our free time is taken up, and you will often see us walking our three very energetic dogs:

(right to left) Bonnie, Kipper and Bella.
